How to Fix Streaming Buffering: 12 Proven Fixes
Stop IPTV buffering and freezing with 12 practical fixes, from quick restarts and Ethernet to router settings, DNS, player engines and device upgrades.
Quick answer
Buffering means video arrives more slowly than it plays. The most effective fixes are restarting router and device, using an Ethernet cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, pausing other heavy downloads, checking speed on the TV itself in the evening, switching DNS, disabling VPNs for testing, changing the player's engine or decoder, clearing the app cache and updating firmware.

Buffering happens when video arrives more slowly than your device plays it. The fixes below start with the quickest and most effective. Test after each one.
Quick fixes (2 minutes)
1. Restart everything
Unplug your router and TV/streaming device for 30–60 seconds. Start the router first, wait two minutes, then the TV. This clears memory leaks and congested connections.
2. Test a different channel
If only one channel buffers, the issue is likely that stream, not your setup. Try again later or use an alternative version of the channel if your list includes one.
3. Pause other heavy traffic
Game downloads, cloud backups, video calls and other 4K streams all compete for bandwidth. Pause them and test again.
Network fixes (most effective)
4. Use an Ethernet cable
A wired connection removes Wi-Fi interference and is the single biggest improvement for most people. Fire TV Sticks can use Amazon's Ethernet adapter.
5. Improve your Wi-Fi
- Connect to the 5 GHz band (often shown with "5G" in the network name).
- Move the router out of cupboards and away from the TV's back.
- Use a mesh system or access point if the TV is far from the router.
6. Check your real speed
Run a speed test on the TV or streaming device, ideally in the evening. Compare with our speed requirements: roughly 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K per screen.
7. Change DNS servers
Slow DNS can delay stream start-up. Set your device or router to a public DNS service such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
8. Disable VPNs and filters (for testing)
A distant or busy VPN server adds delay. Turn it off to test; if it helps, choose a closer server.
Player and device fixes
9. Switch the player engine or decoder
Most IPTV players — including IBO Player — let you choose between video player engines or hardware/software decoding. Try each option on a problem channel.
10. Clear the app cache
On Android TV and Fire TV: Settings → Apps → your player → Clear cache. On Smart TVs, uninstall and reinstall if the app slows down over time.
11. Update everything
Update the player app, the TV/device firmware and your router firmware.
12. Upgrade an underpowered device
Older sticks and TVs may lack H.265 hardware decoding or enough memory. A current-generation streaming device often fixes persistent stutter. See choosing a streaming device.
When is it the service?
If several channels buffer on multiple devices at the same time, even on a wired connection with a good speed test, contact us with the channel names and times. That information helps us check the streams.
